My 2025 Reading Challenge

As we near the end of 2024, I’m looking ahead to 2025 and my goals. One of my goals for 2024 was to read 30 books I had never read before, specifically ones that I had already owned or bought. I have done this! I am at 31 books at the start of December with the hopes to read at least one more. I want to create two tournament-style books. One is for the best book of the year, and the other is for the worst book of the year (I read some bad books!)

I have loved this goal and this process because it encourages me to actively read the books that I have rather than resorting back to my favorites. I have books that I’ve read hundreds of times, but I have others I’ve never even opened. Doing this challenge this year really encouraged me to read through the ones that I have neglected. It has also encouraged me to be more selective of the books I buy. Sometimes a book is really great, but it won’t get better if I read it again. Then it makes me wonder if the book is worth buying and/or keeping.

I want to replicate this goal for 2025, but with a new twist. I want to keep reading new books, but I want to save space on my bookshelf for books I will continue to treasure and enjoy! Luckily, I live in a city with an incredible library system. I have written a post before on how I feel about libraries (read it here), but in short, I love them. I also want to save some money.

However, because there are so many books in the world, I don’t even know where to start. But, I’m not the only person I know who likes books! I want, no I NEED your help! I want recommendations from my friends, family, and people I care about! At the bottom of this post, you will find a Google form! If you have a book recommendation for me, drop it down below!

I will read just about anything! In 2024, I read all sorts of things. Some of the books I read included an outer space science fiction, a competition among magical families young adult, a professional email workplace drama and comedy, historical fiction ranging from the Trojan War to Cold War. I have read nonfiction this year too, such as a book about a Negro Leagues woman baseball player, pirates on the Pacific coast of Central and South America, an examination of the Titanic as a shipwreck, and even a book about a man’s journey to bake the perfect loaf of bread! I love mystery, thriller, science fiction, fantasy, romance, historical fiction, young adult, and so much more!!!

My goal is to read 32 books entirely from suggestions of others! At the end of the year, I plan to put them into a tournament just like I am doing this year. I will publish the results in a super long blog post at the end of the year! I will share with you the best books and the worst books of the year that I had recommended to me!

I am so excited for this journey! I am excited for the books people recommend to me! And please don’t feel that you need to recommend your favorite book! It can be a truly terrible book that you just need someone else to read so you don’t feel like you’re going crazy. Favorite books are great, but bad books are so fun and exciting!

If you want to follow along with the whole process and not just see the end result, feel free to follow me on Goodreads too! I will post that down below as well! I use Goodreads to help me keep track and write reviews. My reviews most of the time do not contain spoilers but give me a space to write my honest thoughts and feelings. You can also recommend me books directly on Goodreads as well!

One last thing! I plan to read the books in order that I receive the recommendations! So if you wonder why I haven’t gotten to your book yet, just know that it is still on my list and it will probably be read soon!

I cannot wait for this year of reading! Here’s to all the adventures I will have!
