Introducing Me

The first post of the year is always somewhat difficult. There are so many directions you can take, but I feel the first post of the year sets the tone for how your posts are gonna go. In 2017, I wrote a post about goals for the year rather than “resolutions” because I feel like resolutions are made to be broken once the resolve is gone (read that post here). At the start of 2018, I wrote a letter to the year to make it a good year (read that post here).

I thought about doing something similar to either of those two things this year. But the more I thought about it, the less I liked either of those ideas. I have already used both of them! I don’t want to do a complete repeat, but I do want to do a repeat of a topic. I’ve had this blog for over two years now, and I don’t usually talk about just myself (the last time I did was in December of 17, where I did 20 Things You May not Know About Me). I want to start the year giving you a general overview of who I am.

  • My name is obviously Kimberly, but since entering college, I go by Kim or Burr. However, I got called Kimmy often in high school, so I still answer to that as well.
  • I am currently a junior in college
  • I am a double major in Social Studies Education (SOST) and History. As an SOST, I have to have a concentration in history and at least one other social science (political science, economics, geography, psychology, and sociology). I am concentrating in (obviously history,) geography, and psychology. This means that unless some unforeseen circumstance happens, I will be licensed to teach both of those subjects in any school in Indiana. I am also an Honors student (as if I didn’t have enough to do). Honors is interesting because you get to take some different classes you might never get the chance to do otherwise.
  • My hobbies include writing, bullet journaling, watching movies, reading books, watching sports, trivia, and baking or cooking.
  • My favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird. My favorite book series is Percy Jackson. It’s really difficult to pick a favorite movie because I have a lot, so my favorite movies (of ones I’ve seen) are Dunkirk, Eddie the Eagle, How the Grinch Stole Christmas (original one), The Imitation Game, Lean on Me, Now You See Me 2, She’s the Man, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Wonder Woman, and Tangled.
  • Christmas is my favorite holiday, but I will not celebrate it until after Thanksgiving because I really like Thanksgiving.
  • My favorite flower is a poinsettia, and my favorite colors are royal blue, dark purple, bright orange, and Kelly green.
  • I consider myself artistic, but I’m not super great at drawing, I would rather paint, construct, or calligraphy than draw.
  • I’m currently pursuing a degree to teach in secondary (high school), but it is my dream to one day become a professor and teach at the collegiate level.
  • One of my goals in life is to have a work published that isn’t influenced by a degree, so that could be a novel or some kind of motivation/self-help book.
  • I have two different favorite sports. My favorite sport to play is soccer, but my favorite sport to watch is basketball. But I enjoy most sports (except rugby, which makes 0 sense to me).
  • I’m a hometown girl when it comes to sports- I root for the Indiana Pacers, the Indiana Fever, the Indy Eleven, the Indianapolis Colts, the Indianapolis Indians, and the Indy Fuel
  • Outside of those, I’m a Chicago fan on a couple of sports. I’m a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, and I root for the Chicago Fire even though they haven’t been the best recently.
  • The farthest place I have traveled is Mexico City, but I would love to travel the world someday.
  • My favorite city that I have been to outside of Indiana is Boston, but I’m unsure if I would ever want to live there.
  • My eyes are green.
  • I am left-handed.
  • I have one tattoo on my forearm, but I have plans for at least two more.
  • I am barely graduating on time. It’s not that I’m really struggling with my grades (in fact, I’m not struggling with them at all), but I have to take 18 credits every semester (which is the most you can take without being charged as more than a full-time student) and a few summer classes.
  • I am more of a dog person than a cat person, but I love them all!
  • My favorite band is Fall Out Boy, and it’s nearly impossible for me to choose a favorite song.
  • My taste in music ranges from Christian rock to 80s hair bands to country to showtunes to alternative to emo/grunge. I’m into 90s and 00s pop more than today’s pop.
  • I have seen 5 Broadway plays: Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera, Hamilton, Lion King, and Book of Mormon. I have also seen The Wizard of Oz and A Christmas Carol on a professional setting.
  • I enjoy acting, singing, and dancing, both seeing them and doing them.
  • I am full of random useless knowledge that will probably never help me with anything unless I were to get on Jeopardy!, which I would love to do.
  • I haven’t drank soda in over 7 years.
  • I don’t like coffee, and I only drink tea when my throat is sore or it’s really cold outside. I’m also not a fan of hot chocolate. Usually, my body temperature runs a little bit lower than what is considered “normal” so by the time I’ve had a few drinks of something warm, I’m back at a normal temperature so then it just grosses me out.
  • My favorite period of history is the Civil War. All parts of it intrigue me. But I also really enjoy both the American Revolution and World War II.
  • My favorite animal is tigers, specifically orange Siberian Tigers (not the white ones). But I also love/ want a hedgehog!
  • Lastly, my favorite food is cheese, and as a result, anything cheese is used in- pizza, mac and cheese, etc.

I hope you got to know me a little better!!! Happy 2019!
